Our incarceration rates are already much higher than the national average


 

How are we doing our math?

Staunton had 168 people incarcerated on January 27, 2021. Staunton's total population is 24,932.  This means there are 6.74 people incarcerated per 1,000 in Staunton.

Waynesboro had 116 people incarcerated on January 27, 2021. Waynesboro's total population is 22,630.  This means there are 5.13 people incarcerated per 1,000 in Waynesboro.

Rockingham County had 185 people incarcerated at MRRJ on January 27, 2021 and 179 people incarcerated at RHRJ on February 2, 2021. Rockingham County's total population is 81,948.  This means there are 4.44 people incarcerated per 1,000 in Rockingham.

Augusta County had 325 people incarcerated on January 27, 2021. Augusta County's total population is 75,558.  This means there are 4.3 people incarcerated per 1,000 in Augusta County.

Harrisonburg had 31 people incarcerated at MRRJ on January 27, 2021 and 128 people incarcerated at RHRJ on February 2, 2021.  Harrisonburg's total population is 53,016.  This means there are 2.99 people incarcerated per 1,000 in Harrisonburg.
